I would definitely start with tech stocks, but this should depend on what you're most comfortable with and what you're most able to understand. After all, when starting out, you should always try to stick within your circle of competence so that you invest in a company whose business you're able to understand and analyse accordingly. You can also focus on local stocks since we should be able to understand them better too! Personally, stocks I'm picking up right now are Sea and Grab (AGC) since they're Singapore businesses and are tech stocks that are listed in the US (more liquidity) :)
