You can refer to Seedly's article here: https://blog.seedly.sg/national-service-ns-how-...

The article estimates between $16,980 - $21,230. The amount assumes you save 50% of your income. If you save a higher percentage, it can be more than the amount stated.

Your PES status (whether combat fit or not) and vocation (risk allowance) also affect your monthly allowance. Those are factors that you cannot change.

What you are able to change is to get incentives and/or decrease spending.

If you are combat fit, you will need to clear IPPT/ATP/CS and they will be monetary incentives for achieving a certain level. While keeping fit, you can also gain a few hundred!

There are a few ways to cut down on spending.

  • Keeping away from trouble (in-camp photo, obscene materials, restricted documents, not wearing masks...) can save you unnecessary fines which can cost quite a bit.

  • Try to stay-in (if possible). This reduces the cost of daily transportation and meals outside. If you cannot stay-in, do get a monthly concession card.

  • Eat from the cookhouse. While the food may be boring or less fancy than the mess/canteen, these costs will eventually stack up. Save your money for better food outside!

  • Make use full of the gym (in-camp/CHEVRONS/Temasek Club). This way, you do not need any gym membership outside.

  • Less clubbing/alcohol. Hidden blessing from COVID.

  • Cut down on smoking.

  • Use your 11B for hospital/polyclinic visits and to remove wisdom teeth. Can potentially save a few thousand.

  • Use your 11B for NSF promos for food (or other expenditures) if dining out.

  • If you are working odd-hours (and/or no public transport is available), do contact your unit's S1 for transport claim.
