I think if you would like to research more on crypto you can look at

market cap (diluted and circulating)
community sentiment (twitter, telegram)
For defi project you can look at TVL (total value locked)

Generally BTC or ETH will be the blue chips picks if you don't really know much.

I can recommend you looking into coins that are dealing with Defi, Enterprise, Oracles, Crosschains issues. Those are the trend in crypto investing right now.
