REITs

Hi! I’m looking for an advisor to help me with my investment in REITs. Any platforms for recommendations as to how I’m going to go about starting?

I know that NikkoAM has the Straits Trading Asia ex Japan REIT ETF but for now but I’m not very sure if they include local REITs.

For SGX, there are two REIT focused ETFs. One is the NikkoAM-STC (ticker:CFA) and one is the Lion-Philip (ticker: CLR). CLR is all S-REITS.

You may consider

  1. Roboadvisors like Stashaway or Syfe which have income-fcoused portfolios which have components in REITs/REITs ETFs.

  2. Regular Savings Plans like DBS Invest-Saver or OCBC Blue Chip Investment Plan which can do monthly investment into some REITs/REITs ETFs

  3. DIY with the stock brokerage account

Roboadvisors and RSPs may have a lower entry cost depending on your planned investment amount. DIY affords more flexibility.

If you intend to look at overseas listed REITs, do note that there withholding tax for dividends/distributions.

I'd recommend to not invest into single REITs but into REIT ETFs.

For Singapore my choice would be (and is) : Lion-Phillip S-REIT ETF

For U.S. my choice woud be (and is): VNQ

Hi Melissa,

You can buy SG REITs on any local brokerage firm, but if you want to explore overseas ...
