Do we need to progress up to a management role as we age?

If we remain as an executive at 40, that means we will get replaced by younger workers? Do we need to be a manager or senior manager by certain age? Because all the fresh grad will apply for executive positions

Firstly, which path is more appealing (you both enjoy and can excel at) for you?

Some people prefer to do more technical role and they grow to be technical experts in their field, getting more specialised.

Some others do enjoy the position where they can manage and mentor the team, and they want to grow in the area of people management.

Secondly, what are the opportunities available in your company? Is that the progression that is expected of you? You may want to communicate your work goals/aspirations with your superior too so that you know what are the options available.
