Do I need to be a high spender to be part of the miles game?

What is the recommended monthly or annual spend required if I want to be part of the miles game?

Well, no you don't. But of course, if you have many overseas expenditure, and know how to utilize each miles card to its advantage (for eg, AMEX Krisflyer with Grab), you would rack up a lot of miles quickly. But personally for me, be it miles or cashback, I always prefer 1 card for it, such as OCBC 90N, or cashback it's HSBC Advanced.

Nope! If you use the right cards for the right spending, you can accumulate quite a bit of miles! Of course, the more you spend, naturally you can accumulate more miles. Personally I think the miles game requires more planning because unlike cashback game, you need a long-term goal. Knowing your destination, fare type and the amount of miles you need would determine how you play your miles game - how many cards to use, which cards to use to support that miles game and the likes. The lazier (and possibly more costly?) way is to use a no-expiry kind of miles credit card - Citibank PremierMiles and DBS Altitude - and slowly build your miles fort from there because they have less attractive mpd for general local spend.

Hi Gabriel, I personally feel you do not have to be a high spender. Especially so if you are looking at miles that do not have an expiry such as DBS Altitude and Citi PremierMiles - good for those who wish to slowly accumulate their miles and not be pressured to spend a minimum each money. Which could be the case for some cashback cards that have a stipulated minimum spend in order to enjoy the higher-than-average cashback %.

More importantly, keep track of your spending pattern and study which cards will help you maximise the miles you can earn.

No, You just need to be a brillant strategician to be part of the miles game. I have spent an amount of 17,000 but I have accumulated enough for a business ticket
