I've always had that old school thinking that I must own a property in Singapore.

Hi anon,
Without knowing what your financial situation or other info (eg. your citizenship status) is like, it's a bit hard to point you in the right direction.
I'm gonna assume that you're a Singapore citizen and regardless of which choice you go with, you have the financial means to handle it.
Now with this in mind, you mentioned 2 options:
Rent a whole HDB flat, OR
Buy a resale property
If you're planning to make Singapore your home in the long-term, I'd say it makes more sense to own your property (as you said in your description "I've always had that old school thinking that I must own a property in Singapore.").
So I would go with buying a resale HDB flat instead of renting. If you need help choosing a resale flat, we've got a guide to help you pick out the perfect HDB resale flat which you can use!
