Can i use two separate insurances to cover hospitalisation costs?

I have two separate policies, one with AON and the other with AIA that cover hospitalisation. The amount due exceeds the cover of one of them. So if i use AON as the primary one, can i use AIA to claim the balance?

Hi there,

In General, one can only have one Shield plan. So I'll assume the AON plan is the one that is offered by your company. You might want to claim from your own first because the coverage offered by companies may not be extensive enough.

Financial planning is an integral part of life. You can reach me here to find out more.

I believe your AIA one is a shield plan. If that's the case, you will claim the AIA one first, since that's done as part of the admission process. Whatever the AIA plan can't pay, probably due to deductible, co-insurance or co-payment, then you claim that through AON. It does not make sense to claim your AON one first, since only the hospital is able to claim the shield plan, so it should be claimed upon admission.

Not sure what your aon policy coveres. but what i would do is to claim hospitalisation plan first. then whatever excess that need to pay cash, i will claim from another policy, eg CI, with a cash payout.

So, it is possible depending on the situation.

hope this helps

Both policies have a hospitalisation component. From your answer i assume that i claim as much as i can from AON and pay the balance myself first. Then claim how much ever of the balance i can from the AIA policy. Is that correct?

I think you mean is that you have two plans with hospitalisation benefits. So you can just submit your proof of hospitalisation to both AIA and AON and then get the cash payout benefit. If this is correct, means you have to pay bill in cash first, then claim from both insurers. Eg. maybe AON covers $100 benefit per day, AIA covers $50 benefit per day. hospitalised for 10 days and the bill total $2000. claim AON $100x10=$1000, claim AIA $50x10 = $500, -> total claim $1500 if bill is $1200 for 10 days, claim AON $1000, but i don't think it is possible to just claim AIA $200. most likely is claim $500 for the 10 days.
