Any suggestions on what to do if home owner is trying not to return room rental deposit to tenant?

I am leaving my room with one month notice based on our tenancy agreement with the owner. The one thing i was quite worried is that the owner is trying not to pay me back the deposit after surrendering my room key on the last day. She told me many stories of coming to check my room first before returning me my deposit, to pay me 7days after I surrendering the key and also to find a new tenant only can return me the deposit. I'm just worried what other way the owner will to take my deposit.
