Fresh Graduates

I had my career path planned out initially, but all my plans were disrupted after COVID hit. I feel that I am at a major disadvantage as compared to the batches which graduated earlier. Any advice?

Like what Malvin has mentioned, don't be dishearten and consider your current options. You mentioned you have intially planned out, how different is your plan now? Will you be able to take the same job (if we don't care about the monetary portion)? If so, I highly recommend you to go for it as this is indeed a difficult time. Monetary part will resolved as the economy recovers. If the problem is you're not able to take up the same job, consider doing the SGUnited Traineeship Programme. I believe there are many companies out there who are trying to help by offering such programme to the fresh graduates. Look for something that you believe can grow your skillset and be valuable once the economy recovers!

Fresh Graduates

What are employers looking out for in the current batch of fresh graduates? Are they any different from last time given the situation now?

I don't think there is a particular thing that employers will look at. Generally there will be higher expectation from the current batch of fresh graduates as there are more job seekers (sadly, people who got retrenched) competing for the same jobs. Employers will hire more selectively (for most companies, only critical roles) and set higher standards than before. So it's critical for the fresh graduates to know that this is happening and focus on looking for a job that can help them grow (not just focused on the monetary portion) and go through this difficult time!

Thanks for the question. What Pang Zhe Liang mentioned is correct, our community team do moderation from time to time to make sure questions are concise and easy to understand. Another reason is because we want to make sure other users who may have the same question can find these content easily. Hope that helps to clarify!

I personally use: 1. DBS Multiplier - Main account for savings but will be changing since the new 2 categories requirement 2. CIMB FastSaver - Join account with my SO 3. UOB One Account - Will be using this as my main savings account, especially since I use quite a bit of UOB Credit Cards

I work closely with the product and engineering team at Seedly and this is a very good question. Content quality and moderation is indeed a big challenge for all user-generated content platforms where users are able to create content freely. As mentioned by couple of guys here, it is challenging to improve quality of content but we are always looking into ways to use technology to help us do that. For example, the flagging feature was released since last week to allow the community to help us moderate content better. And we are receiving good reponses so far and improved our moderation process. We are also exploring other ways to improve the platform. GrabPay Card

DBS Live Fresh Card

Should I cancel my DBS Live Fresh for GrabPay Mastercard?

From my personal experience, GrabPay Mastercard is best paired with UOB One Card because you get up to 10% rebate on GrabPay topup. But as mentioned by JY, GrabRewards is going through some revaluation so it is no longer that attractive from 2 March 2020 onwards. I will still use GrabPay Mastercard with my UOB One Card as the Grab rebate is still very attractive to me even without the GrabRewards (hopefully they don't kill it). If you're just considering between DBS Live Fresh Card and GrabPay Mastercard, I would say GrabPay Mastercard is not that attractive as a standalone without the UOB One Card. Hope that helps!

I actually had a bad experience with the multi currency card app itself... So I was in Malaysia couple months back and I was going to pay on behalf of the dining group. Before making the payment, I wanted to check the app to see if I have sufficient amount to pay for the meal. Turns out I was actually logged out of the app and when I was trying to login, it requires OTP that was sent to my Singapore SIM which I have no access to (because I was using the local SIM). So in the end, I had to use another multi-currency card to make the payment (which I was logged in already). That being said, any app that uses OTP login only will face the same issue. So just beware and make sure you're logged in if they require OTP!

Great question and it triggered me to put in more thoughts for 2020! Here are my immediate 2020 Financial Goals: - Continue to contribute to my RSP monthly - Double/triple the investment amount into my current stocks portfolio (currently its a small size) - Explore more alternative investment (e.g P2P) as part of my investment strategy - Optimise my credit card spending strategy (as 2020 will be a financial spend heavy year for me and my SO)

Has anyone used RobinHood?

Robinhood is a commission free stock trading platform and they don't charge any fee when you trade with them. However, the SEC and FINRA do charge a small fee for stock sell orders. ! If you're wondering what is their business model, they actually earn from Robinhood Gold (their premium subscription) and from the interest on money stored on the Robinhood accounts. Hope that helps!
