Is wirecard's situation due to a fraud or a fundamentally flawed business model?

For me, it is simple - Fraud. https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/wirecard-second-executive-arrested-relation-billion-scandal-accounting-cardsystems-germany-2020-7-1029370033 Which company can have several billions that's unaccounted for? Whether can turn around or not is a different issue. In this kind of business environment, it is anyone's guess.

I think the best investment you can make is on yourself. Among all forms of investment, i would say that investing in your own business is best. This is because you will be able to leverage on what you know or your strengths. I'm not into stock investing because the stock market is full of professional investors. Many have army of people doing research and coming out with investment strategies. Just think about it, how many people you know are full time investors and making lots of money (without doing some form of training on the side). I was once young and also dreamt of being a full time trader. Alas, it was just a dream coz making consistent returns from the stock market is actually much harder than it looks...

I did a search and this is what i found: https://e27.co/in-brief-coassets-delists-from-asx-due-to-low-shareholder-numbers-20200622/ I hope that this will be a start of a successful turnaround so that they will be able to survive through covid and pay investors soon.

Is it advisable for newbies with no investment experience to try P2P Lending (e.g Funding Societies)? Anyone using the platform can share their experience (returns, default rates)? Able to recover your capital if there is default?

Speaking from experience, I would sugget saying away from P2P for now. If it was a booming economy, i feel that it may be worth exploring. In view of the bad market, who knows long covid will last? And if covid lasts for an extended period, you need to ask yourself whether those companies will be able to pay.

Anyone has experience with P2P default? Did P2P provide any evidence the company can’t repay? Or just a simple email to blame on COVID-19?

A few of my crowdfunding deals is having some issues and I am defnitely not happy with the current situation... That said, I also understand that the general business environment is hard. With the government forecasting such a huge drop in the GDP, I would be very sceptical if any company comes out and say that they are not affected by the pandemic. I came across this list https://www.drwealth.com/ultimate-list-of-businesses-that-have-closed-down-declared-bankrupt-or-became-insolvent-during-covid-19/ that I think will only grow as time goes on. While it am not happy making losses, rationally speaking all investment has risks. There is no free lunch and high returns imply high risks. It is just that i thought i have effectively diversified my risks across different investments. Who knew that almost all were affected at the same time due to Covid... :-(
