I regret focusing on saving during my university years. Of course the benefit is that it cultivates good habits. However, rather than saving pennies, if you ask me now I rather spend to get experience when you have the luxury of time. Being full time working parents now, it's hard to take a short break to explore the different culture in other countries.

How about joining Toastmasters club in your company or community? It will give you opportunities to hone your skills in public speaking.

Personally I have no experience managing such a huge sum of money. However, if you want to squirrel some amount in low risk with slightly higher return, can consider 1. Singapore savings bond (up to S$100k/Pax). You may refer to this for more info http://www.sgs.gov.sg/savingsbonds/Your-SSB/This-months-bond.aspx Also, as the allocation is around S$12k/month (varies depending on demand), you may need few months to reach the limit of S$100k. 2. Citibank Maxigain account, works like fixed deposit with step up of interest rate from 1.2% to 2.4% after one year (monthly will increase by 0.1%). You can start with $15k initial amount and after one year (or whenever you feel the interest is acceptable) top up to S$150k. However when you withdraw, the interest rate step to counter may drop. So u can treat this like fixed deposit, especially if you do not need this sum of money. All the best!

So many has shared great tips. Just my two cents : Ensure your expense is much lower than your income. Cultivate the habit of saving up. Have financial discipline, e.g. Paying your credit card bills in full on time. Cc is great with cashback feature, provided you always pay in full on time.

DBS Multiplier since I can combo with another promotion DBS BYOB (promo ended last year). I like that there's no minimum spend with credit card, hence it's easier to achieve 2 transaction type.

Use fan instead of aircon (been there, doing that) Stop buying drink when you eat out (save money and healthier too). Bring your own lunch (my wish list but I value my sleeping time more 🙊)

For me, I will think through before I buy high cost item (above S$100). If after months and the desire to get it is still there, even after weighing pros and cons, I will then get it. I feel impulse buying makes you spend unnecessarily and doesn't give you chance to compare prices to get best deal for yourself.
