Yes Krisflyer is free! It is just an account for you to track your miles. As for the miles card, it depends on your spending. If you have planning to have big expenses next year, you could look out for cards with attractive sign up bonuses (with certain minimum spend). It really depends on what you spend on as well, for example if you travel a lot for work and have a lot of overseas spend then you can get a card with better mpd (miles per dollar) overseas e.g. UOB Privi miles. And if you want to fly SQ, getting a Krisflyer co-brand card (UOB, AMEX) would be easier than transferring using another card. Don't forget that there are other ways to fund your trip! Rewards cards can also be good to earn miles with up to 4mpd (e.g. UOB PPV, HSBC Revolution, etc.). If you are happy flying budget carriers, you could go for a cashback card too! Think about whether what you fly and which carrier you fly makes a difference to you and what you spend on the most.
