Will Changi Airport rise back up again in the rankings for busiest airport in the world?

Singapore has fallen from its 7th spot on the busiest airport list to 58th. We will probably rise up the ranks again when travel is back. There isn't a need to worry about this temporary drop right?

In my opinion, Changi Airport had fallen so much due to mainly 2 reasons.

  1. We do not have domestic flights when there are restrictions by other countries coming from SG to help support the industry like other countries do.

  2. With more than half the world having travel restrictions, singaporeans have no where they can fly to, which is why cruise-to-nowhere is doing well with their sales now.

As for whether Changi Airport will rise again after the entire pandemic, I feel that it mainly depends on whether SG is able to maintain her position for different purpose, be it MICE, airtravel transit, tourist attraction venue, etc. Notice that I did not include outward bound travels, as I feel that singaporeans will go bursting out of SG the moment things clear up, like how all F&B venues meet long queues the moment CB ends and we enter phase 2.

Hope this answers your question, and stay safe.
