Why do some stocks have prices that are exorbitantly high 5 years ago? Is this due to a revere split or?

$DVAX had a price of $94 per share in 2006 and it is trading at $6 currently.

$ONTX had a price of $4000 per share in 2014 and it is trading at $0.34 currently.

$HTBX had a price of $131 per share in 2013 and it is trading at $1.20 currently.

What are the explanations for these huge drops in prices? splits?

You can search them up on Google.

For example, you can look at the shar price for ONTX and find out which year has the most significant drop. From there search 'ticker' + 'year'. For Onconova, it is due to discontinuing its late-stage study of intravenous rigosertib in combination with Eli Lilly's Gemzar in treating front-line metastatic cancer.
