Why do ppl not like performance appraisals? Is it because it's like knowing one's exam results after working hard?

As above. For me regardless the results are good or bad, it gives info to help me become better (identify my blind spots) and know my bosses better (need to adjust to expectations). + Knowing how I dare after efforts are put in.

What do you all think?

I think many people don’t like performance appraisals because they feel stressful and high-stakes. Another reason is that appraisals can affect pay, promotions, or how your boss views you. So people get nervous about being judged. Even if the feedback isn’t great, it can help highlight blind spots and clarify what your boss expects. If done well, it can be a good chance to improve.

  • Appraisal just a formality in big company. Performance base on bell curve.

  • Bosses have already decided who to promote (usually those who overpromise & know how to BS), who to give poor grade (usually those old workers) behind close door. Thus really pointless.
