Among my group of friends, when someone starts asking about stocks, investments etc, I notice that some other friends get hesitant and don't seem comfortable with sharing about what they're up to. They hesitate and seem to be filtering out some info or keeping things super vague. Is stock investing or trading something personal?

It's because you can borrow a stock idea, but not conviction. Most people still have the mindset of buying stocks as "gambling", "play stocks", "get some kopi money", and so they just want stock tips & earn a quick buck.
Very rarely, they will ask you aspects about the business.
"What is the profit margin of this company?"
"How much free cash flow does this company have?"
"How does the company pay dividends? Is it from their operating profits? Debt? Cash reserves?"
"What's unique about this company and their products/services that made you buy their shares?"
"How does the company earn money? Is it by contract? subscription? sale of units from inventory?"
"Who are the management running the company?"
"How many employees do they have?"
and so on.
So I think it's quite natural that probably some of your friends who're serious investors (i.e. buy, monitor, and hold companies shares) naturally will try not to reveal too much to such people.

I think sharing information to gain conviction is fine, especially when we have more views on certain companies. however, i would be prudent and tactful, by not showing the avg price to prevent price anchoring mental blocks. As investment, we must be comfortable with the price we are paying. due diligence is one of the most overrated words used nowadays.
sharing among close friends for me is fine, but not to any tom, dick, harry. some people are just learning and may not be comfortable to show they might be bagholding etc. βββ
