Why are social payment apps like Venmo popular in the US?

Don’t they have some sort of PayNow equivalent? And if no why not? Venmo instant transfers have fees while PayNow doesn’t. Is this why cryptocurrency has more utility in the US?

PayNow just makes things simple. What are the struggles of splitting a bill with a friend in the US?

Different regulations between federal and state levels, populations that are underserved by the banking sector, fear of “big government” etc. I guess.

You could split the bill between your friend’s and your credit cards and also do factor in the tips. The US has a very strong tipping culture.
