The best way is to buy a an S&P 500 ETF is to buy an ETF like VOO which tracks the S&P 500 and buy it through Vanguard commission free.

This article compares VOO vs SPY very well. Very low expense ratio as well.

TD will be better as there is no minimal trades and data fees to be incurred monthly. IB has these restrictions (but lower commission per trade).

If you are going to buy 3-4 counters per month, TD will be better for you if you do the maths.
