What type of insurance should single 30 year old, no financial commitments, no dependants, no plans to marry or have kids need and for how long?

I keep reading that term insurance is best. Is this true? Understand that there is insurance for death, TPD, CI and hospital. If I have no dependants, do I actually need insurance for death/TPD? Should I have CI for term or whole life?

If you have no dependent, then you generally do not need life insurance. Unless you are financially independent, you will need disability insurance, but disability income insurance is better than TPD, due to it's better definitions. But not every insurance company has such insurance policy. Generally, it is a good idea to have CI cover for life, even though the main purpose of CI cover is for loss of income. This is because CI is also good for seeking alternative treatment which may not be covered by your shield plan.

Hi,

Being single can be a good thing because of the lesser responsibility, but at the same time, because you have no dependent at all, you also have no one to depend on when the unfortunate happens. Hence, you will still need insurance to cover for your own needs.

Death protection will most likely be redundant unless of course you choose to donate the payouts to a charity organisation. You will still need your integrated shield plan to cover your hospital bills. You will also need an income protection plan in case you couldn't work because due to illness or injury and you will still need a personal accident plan in case of any disability from an accident.

Critical illness plan will be optional depending on your needs as the integrated shield plan and income protection plan would have provide the coverage you need to ride out the storm should it happens to you.

Minimally, i think a single will need these three kinds of insurance plan. Do not underestimate the fact that you have no dependent, no responsibility and hence no need for any insurance. In fact, it is quite scary for a single to not be insured at all, because when unfortunate events happen, you have no one to depend on. It is best for you to make sure you are fully protected with an insurance.

Feel free to contact me (email at bio) if you are interested to find out more about insurance coverage for singles. I will be glad to help you.

Cheers.
