What type of insurance policy would you recommend for someone age 60 with SLE?

I'm planning to buy hospital plan for my parent, but one of them have SLE. Idk whether is wise for us to still pay for the premium loading.

Hi anon,

SLE is probably an outright decline for hospitalization plans, but should you have the option to get accepted with exclusions (hospitalization plans are usually given exclusions, I've yet to see one with loading) then I would take it up. There are a lot of things that might happen and cause someone to be warded, and it might not even be SLE related. Having the hospitalization plan would at least provide some measure of relief if your parent is warded for something that is not SLE related.

Even if your parent was warded for SLE related issues, remember that Medishield Life covers pre existing conditions so you still have some level of coverage there.

SLE is an autoimmune disease which can affect many different body systems and can result in various severe complications.

From my experience with most insurers, they are likely to decline applicants for hospital plan (IPs) if they have SLE.

In the unlikely event an insurer actually counter offer with a loading, then whether it's wise for you to accept would mainly depend on what is the loading %.

Hi there. Well, the question you should be asking is, if you don't take up the hospitalisation plan,...
