Get discounted tickets online - Omio, Klook where they offer cheaper and more convinient booking with e-tickets (Can consider some of the budget airlines like ryan air, easy jet, but be careful of their baggage policies if its a long travel)
Join free walking tours in EU! And get advice about the local eateries from the guides, where meals can be costly in fancy restaurants, the locals would be more than willing to share about budget friendly and authentic diners
Transport plays a significant costs especially with rail ways and local trams/ buses, so look out for tourist friendly transport pass, and perhaps pack the long-distance travel in one day, with old town travel in the other to reduce the no. of days for these travel passes

Try to walk as much as you can cause that really saves you A LOT on transport expenses (even if it is a 35min walk, its still cheaper than a 15min bus ride) but of course if it is wayy too far then try to buy a train pass for the time you are there.
Since you are going with your family, you can definitely save on food. In order to try more things, spend lesser on each meal and share every meal! My family went to the extent of sharing 2 burgers for 4 people...so yes it is very possible to cut on the cost of food.
Something else you can do is go on free tours or explore the city on your own. it would be good that way because not only do you save on expenses but you also see much more of the city.
I think planning the finances of your trip really helps. Like allocating specific amounts for food, transport and shopping for every single day and make sure you stick to it.

So far I think for me is renting a car rather then using a guide van.
The savings is alot, roughly about $400 difference which we used it to stay in nicer hotels when in Khao yai for 4 days.
And also to use credit cards instead of cash overseas and buying air tickets in advance.
You can check out my video on the tips on being a savvy traveller.

How you pay also helps :) I use the Wise card as it allows me to lock in currencies when the rates are good.
