Sorry for the noob question. I'm looking to purchase some Alibaba stock but noticed they're listed in US and HK as well? I'd assume US is the main one but thinking of HK because I have some spare HKD in my multi currency account. Is there any difference between the two? Are they two different entities or exactly the same? Which one to pick.

Both represent shares in the same company.
BABA is the ADS listed on the NYSE.
9988 is the stock listed on the HKEX.
One BABA is equivalent to 8 shares of 9988.
Lot size of BABA is 1.
Lot size of 9988 is 100.
So depending on how much HKD you have and the transaction costs, you could choose to buy 9988 over BABA.
In terms of performance, there would be some correlation between the two. BABA usually is the influence. But sometimes because of the different market sentiments, not always perfect.
