What's the appeal or worth of the Stan Chart Manhattan $500 Card?

The reward rates seem super low at just 0.25% cashback on all transactions. Is there any appeal to this card? Am I missing something?

Hey Anon, the target market for such credit cards with $500 credit limit are usually students, NSFs and those whose annual income is under $30k. Regardless, if you're considering of getting one of these $500 credit limit cards, consider the Maybank eVibes or CIMB AWSM card instead, both of which offers 1% rebate as compared to SCB's Manhattan 0.25% rebate. The Maybank eVibes is more attractive as the rebate applies to all spending, excluding those usual exclusions (government agencies, transport etc.), whereas CIMB's AWSM only offers the rebate to a few categories - dining, telco and online shopping if I recall correctly.

Alternatively, if you're under 27 years old, go for SCB's JumpStart account which comes with a free debit card that offers 1% rebate as well, similar to the Maybank eVibes.

Either way, it's a good way to start building your credit limit. Hope this helps!

I see these $500 limit credit cards as a good starter way of building your credit history and learning to manage and use credit.

No doubt there is a possibility that it can be misused or could be seen as a way for banks to get younger people hooked on consumption.
