What other things we can do to earn extra income if we work in the civil service?

I work in the civil service but I really need extra cash so is there any way of earning it does working as freelance count as going against the rules?

Since you tagged this as National Service, I'll assume you're a NSF. Generally, while yes, moonlighting is not allowed as an NSF, the rules are quite slack when it comes to regulating NSFs. Of course, this would also vary based on your superiors as i would think some regulars are more strict than others. I've known many NSFs who taught tuition on weekends, or did freelance photography on the side. I'm not saying to break the rules but just remember the 9th core value of the SAF πŸ‘€

If you're not an NSF, then the stakes are much higher I guess since you could jeopardise your job or your progression. In this case, you would have three choices:

  1. Work harder to rise up the ranks faster so you earn a higher pay
  2. Move to non-civil service
  3. Just accept it and invest to make your savings grow faster
