What is your ideal salary and by what age do you wish to achieve it? Be realistic!

I was told that the sense of satisfaction for pay increment decreases when we passed a monthly salary of $8,000.

Just wanted to ask the community, what is your ideal salary (be realistic), and by what age do you wish to achieve it. Are you on track?

Hmm now I am 24 and earning more than S$6k/month, combining income + employer cpf contribution + side hustles. Getting to S$10k/month before turning 28/29 would be cool

Ideally:

25YO - 3k to 3.5k

30YO - 4k to 5k

35YO - 6k to 7k

40YO - 8k to 10k

45YO - 10k to 15k

50YO - 15k to 20k

  • I was having a discussion with a friend the other day and we agreed that we need a combined income of at least 10k per month to be comfortable.

Reality:

  • Some people never earn beyond 3k,6k,10k or 20k in a lifetime
  • I know a number of people with combined income of less than 5k and still managed to raise 3 children.
  • The fact is not everyone can get to what the so-called "benchmark" is. As long as we have a growth mindset towards our career, the salary should be rather decent.
  • Unfortunately, much of these benchmark is due to our modern day expectations too. If you earn lesser, you ought to adjust your lifestyle accordingly and learn not to compare with the current norms.

5 digit by early-mid 30s is ideal and comfortable for high cost of living in sg.

There is no ideal. Humans are generally greedy in nature. When you earn more, your lifestyle changes.
