What is WSG's plan to help retrenched workers during this pandemic? Understand that there has been a lot of plans to help workers up-skill, but what about those who are unaware of how to seek help?

E.g. Workers who are unaware of these programmes or do not know where to go or what to do? And what about opportunity cost, while they trying to up-skill, they might not have a job to support their own/families' daily expenses...

The Government has stepped in to create job, traineeship and skills upgrading opportunities for jobseekers under the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package. You can fund out more at www.wsg.gov.sg/sgujsp and https://content.mycareersfuture.gov.sg/career-r...

While there are many programmes available, jobseekers will need to remain open and to look beyond what is familiar to take on job opportunities in new roles or even sectors. For those who come from the hardest-hit sectors, we encourage them strongly to try new opportunities to tide through this difficult period.

For those who are unaware of how to seek help, as a follow-up to the mandatory retrenchment notification policy instituted by MOM, WSG and NTUC e2i reach out to retrenching companies to offer retrenchment support to their employees (subject to the employer’s approval). Such assistance includes on-site career and training advisory, priority access to employment facilitation services and handouts/materials consolidating relevant services (including financial support) for their ease of reference.

In addition, WSG has also set up 24 SGUnited Jobs and Skills Centre (SGUJSC) at the various community centres and our Careers Connect On-The-Go which is a mobile extension of our Career centre are travelling island wide to reach out to the community. Career Ambassadors are deployed there to provide career matching services including one-to-one career advisory and job opportunities.

By going into the heartlands, it helps to create awareness amongst individuals who are unaware of the career matching services available at WSG’s Career Connect centres and encourage individuals facing possible job disruptions to seek assistance early.
