What happens to our US stocks that are held by exchanges should they go bankrupt? There are rumors that crypto stored in exchanged will be liquidated if the exchange go bankrupt, isn't it the same?

US stocks are held by custody on your behalf. Exchanges do not own your stocks and cannot take possession of your stocks to sell off.

One may be glad to knew that none of the stocks that Lehman Brothers held in custody for their clients disappeared.
