Currently I have a hospitalization/ surgery insurance and this AIA star protection plus insurance for my child. Is it necessary to have this star protection insurance? Don't want to over insured for nothing.

AIA Star Protection Plus (from the AIA website brochure) is a term life plan which contains components of personal accident coverage. It's suitable if you do not have budget to get a full whole life or term plan for your child (as the premiums are fairly cheap).
In other words, it's only useful if you want to get a life plan for you baby but do not have the budget to do so.
I think it doesn't coverage GP clinic bills for the 16 common illnesses. Can any AIA representative clarify this?

Hi Anon, if you budget/cashflow allows, it'll be recommended to get a personal accident plan for your child as well. AIA Star Protector Plus is a unique plan that offers the optional child CI benefit, which is cost-effective if you prefer not to purchase a life plan for your child, yet want a child CI coverage. If you prefer to self-insure for personal accident or critical illness events, you can consider terminating the policy.
