What do people mean when they say “liquidation”?

Liquidate in financial terms means to sell off assets, like stocks or property, usually in an unwilling manner due to present circumstances

Liquidation refers to selling off one's assets. E.g. A company who is facing cash flow problems may liquidate to get cash. A recent example would be the bike sharing operator oBike which went into liquidation after they decided to exit the Singapore market.
