HDB flats were meant to be public housing, and should continue to have "a home for everyone" as its main purpose.
We can't afford to end up in a rentier society where everyone only wants to rent out property, and live like feudal lords. That's not helpful to later generations of Singaporeans, and would result in a fragile society.
That said, there is always room for a well-regulated, moderated amount of real estate investment. There could also be some improvement to the "home for everyone" objective. Singles under 35 have a really tough time finding a home, and in general we're less friendly to those who aren't married.
It's supposed to be a home for everyone, not a home for traditional families only, right?
