It seems like banks normally close their eyes on such issue which resulted in MAS stepping in to control them.

It's also odd that so much emphasis is placed on customer vigilance. These scammers aren't targetting us when we are at our most alert. They are targetting us while we are working, returning home from a long day at work, or generally occupied with other aspects of our lives. It is unsurprising (and to no fault of their own) that even IT-savvy individuals fell victim to such scams.

There should have been barriers in place that would inhibit scammers from transferring large sums of money out of the account. If most of the onus is on the customers to prevent such scams, then you are simply waiting for a bomb to explode in your face, which it has.
