As an intern, your employment rights depend on your location and whether the internship is paid or unpaid. Paid interns typically have the same rights as employees, including minimum wage and workplace protections. Unpaid internships should provide educational benefits and not replace regular employees. Interns should also receive a safe work environment and fair treatment. Researching company policies and reading https://indeed.pissedconsumer.com/review.html can help you understand workplace culture before applying. Always check local labor laws to ensure your rights are protected during your internship.

You can view the full list of intern rights here.

  1. Compensation for work-related injuries/sickness (including work-related COVID)
  2. Overtime pay is mandatory if you work more than 44 hours a month
  3. No more than 72 hours of overtime a month
  4. 7 days of annual leave for every 12 months of service, pro-rated accordingly (yes, you get annual leave as an intern!)
  5. Outpatient sick leave from 5 days to 14 days, depending on length of internship
  6. Hospitalisation leave from 15 days to 60 days, depending on length of internship
  7. Minimum one rest day per week, or compensation if you have to work on your rest day
  8. Maximum 12 hours of work per day, unless there are exceptional circumstances
  9. Must have 45-min break for every 8 hours of continuous work
  10. Getting a salary as an intern is not an employment right, as employers can provide unpaid internships. However, if your employer has agreed to give you a paid internship, they cannot unilaterally stop paying your salary. They have to abide by the Employment Agreement signed w/ you.
