STI Index vs S&P 500 - what are the advantages and disadv between the 2?

hearing alot of talk about S&P 500 and looking to invest 20k, but not too keen to deal with another currency...

STI index advantage is local currency if you live in Singapore and no withholding tax. Disadvantages are subpar performances, low diversification at only 30 companies and too much portion of the holdings are on the banking industry at around 40% (DBS, OCBC, UOB).
