Stash-away - consequences when I stopped recurring investment

I stopped StashAway investment (18% risk) because it's been in the negatives since Feb 2022. Should I continue to add funds little by little or just stopped till I see positive returns?

What happens when I stop? I continue to lose money and pay fees to StashAway but no opportunity to regain returns?

It is a bear market, Dollar Cost Averaging might not be a good idea? my 5 cents

Hi there, Mey here from StashAway CX.

Seeing negative returns in portfolios is incredibly unnerving, but history has shown that bear markets do not last forever. At StashAway we encourage our users to dollar cost average (DCA) in to their portfolios as we can never really know when is the right or wrong time to enter the market.

History also tells us that through dollar-cost averaging over the long term, the times you buy low and buy high all average out so that you are ultimately buying nearer to fair value of the same security while simultaneously getting the most out of your cash by putting it in the market.

That said, remember that the fundamentals of investing is having endurance and patience. The key is what returns are sustainable for the longest period of time, this is where compounding works it’s magic. It’s also crucial to understand that the market anomalies that happened in the last 2 years (both the good and bad times), will likely repeat itself again. While the rough patches are not necessarily fun for any portfolio, this is the reality of long-term investing. What’s most important is not to time the market, but spend time in the market.

Market as whole is trending down. So any robo advisor is similar.

u can wait for the market trend to go up. Or keep buying little as DCAing.

Question is do you understand the product that you are investing? Roboadvisor is just a methodology and you need to know eventually what's your geographical exposure and market segment so you can reason why the fund is performing as such.

I do both ETF DCA and robo advisor SYFE and learning that robo all comes down to how your funds management communicate with you on their action. So you need to ask your funds manager on this :)
