Should I go for a used smartphone on carousell or get a new phone online/retail shop as a student (poly/NS/Uni)?

I seeing a lot of people, likely tech savvy people who used their phone for a few month (1 ~ 6 mth) then they sell their phone on carousell for. Is it wise, cos I'm worry about regretful spending or save money but regret later mood. Any tips or advice for me to look out when going for big-ticket items on carousell (used/new) ($300 above)
