Should i get private medical insurance coverage now that MediShield Life is in force?

After the introduction of MediShield Life kicked in i saw my compulsory medical insurance premium more than doubled so i cancalled all additional private medical insurance policies and rider.
I have up to 12k of hospitalisation benefits and 1k outpatient specialist medical benefit coverage from my employer i do not see the need to pay so much more premiums just to enrich insurance companies and agents. Especially since MediShield Life has no no-claim rebates and pre-existing condition exclusion.

Hey there!

Medishield Life is ultimately limited. You don't want to be in a situation where something happens which may affect your insurability for a hospitalization plan and you are no longer employed, ie. no longer covered.

You may want to consider at least getting a plan that covers for restructured hospital if a private hospitalization plan is too pricey.
Financial planning is an integral part of life. You can reach me here to find out more.

Hi anon,

Unless your employer covers you for life (and will you stay with them all the way? Or change jobs later?), the day will come when you retire and you will have to fall back on MSL if you do not at least have a government hospital level shield plan.

The question will be, will MSL be sufficient for you? The claim limit is not that high ($100K at the moment), surgery claims are based on the complexity, there will be a deductible and uncapped co-insurance, and there is no pre and post hospitalization coverage.

Do give it some thought.
