There's no shortage of "how ShopBack works" explainers out there. Most of them cover the basics in four bullet points and call it a day. This isn't that.
If you're signing up for the first time and want to actually understand how to use it well — not just vaguely — this covers the full picture: how the platform works, how to claim the current signup bonus, what to do first, what not to do, and which categories consistently deliver the best returns for Singapore shoppers.
ShopBack is a cashback platform. Here's the mechanic behind it, because understanding this makes everything else make sense.
When you shop through ShopBack and click through to a partner merchant, ShopBack earns an affiliate commission from that retailer for sending you over. ShopBack then shares a percentage of that commission back with you as cashback. You pay the exact same price at checkout as anyone else — the cashback is funded entirely from the retailer's marketing budget, not added on top of what you owe.
The implication: you're not getting a worse deal by going through ShopBack. You're getting the same deal, with money coming back after the fact.
ShopBack was founded in Singapore in 2014 and is headquartered here. It's regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a licensed Major Payment Institution since June 2025, and has paid out over S$1 billion in cashback globally.
The "is this legit?" question is settled.
There's a welcome offer running from 1–11 September 2026. New users who sign up with a referral code during this window receive a $10 bonus Cashback to kick off their account.
The referral code to use: fgcymM
Where to enter it: when you're creating your ShopBack account, look for the option that says "I have a referral or reward code" before you finish registration. Enter the code there. This step has to happen during signup — the code cannot be applied retroactively once the account is created.
The $10 bonus lands in your account immediately as Pending. To unlock it for withdrawal, you need to:
That's a generous timeline. For anyone who shops online even occasionally, hitting $20 in spend and $10 in confirmed cashback over six months is very achievable.

Here it is, the single most important thing to know: you must start every purchase from ShopBack.
Open the ShopBack app, browser extension, or website. Search for the store you want to shop at. Tap "Shop Now." Then complete your purchase in that same browser session without switching tabs or opening a different browser.
If you skip this and navigate directly to the retailer's site — even to a retailer you've shopped through ShopBack before — no cashback tracks for that purchase. Each session needs its own click-through.
This is the single most common reason cashback doesn't show up. Not a bug, not a policy issue — just a missed step.
The mobile app (iOS and Android) is the main way most Singapore users shop. Search for the retailer, tap through, buy as normal. Also handles in-store cashback and Dine Out features.
The website (shopback.sg) works the same way as the app on a laptop or desktop browser. Some people prefer it for larger purchases where they want a bigger screen.
The browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari) is the smartest option for desktop shoppers. Install it once, and it auto-detects when you land on a participating merchant's site — even if you navigated there directly. The extension icon turns red with a prompt to activate cashback. One tap, it turns green, tracking is live. You don't have to remember to go to ShopBack first — it reminds you.
All three read from the same account balance and the same Confirmed Cashback ledger. You can click through on desktop and the cashback shows up on mobile. It all syncs.
ShopBack covers 1,300+ partner merchants in Singapore across pretty much every spending category. Here's an honest sense of where the returns are strongest:
Travel — the highest per-order value by farThis is where ShopBack genuinely shines. Current cashback rates on travel partners as of September 2026 (always verify live rates in-app before booking, as they change):
A family of four booking $400–$600 of Klook activities for a Japan trip — theme parks, transfers, eSIMs — can realistically earn $60–$150 in cashback from that one booking cluster. That's not nothing.
For hotels, comparing Agoda and Booking.com side-by-side before booking — then activating ShopBack on whichever is cheaper — often beats loyalty points from booking direct. A typical calculation: a $180/night hotel direct earns loyalty points worth around $4. The same booking via Agoda plus ShopBack cashback can net $25–$40 in real SGD.
Fashion — solid returns on brands you're probably already buying
Zalora, ASOS, Uniqlo, Charles & Keith, Pedro, Love Bonito, Nike, Adidas — all on ShopBack. Rates typically run 3–8% depending on merchant and campaign timing. During 9.9 and 11.11, fashion cashback rates often go upsized.
Health and beauty
Sephora, Watsons, Guardian, iHerb, Sasa — consistently active on ShopBack. Good for regular replenishment purchases where the cashback compounds quietly over time.
Electronics and home
Dyson, Decathlon, FairPrice Online among others. Electronics have lower percentage rates but higher absolute dollar values, so a single purchase can generate meaningful cashback.
Food delivery and grocery
foodpanda, RedMart/FairPrice — rates are generally lower and more variable, but if you're ordering regularly anyway, it adds up.
New cashback shows up in your Pending balance within about 48 hours of a purchase completing. It stays Pending while the merchant waits for the return window to close. Once the return window passes and the merchant confirms the sale, it moves to Confirmed and becomes withdrawable.
For most retail purchases this takes a few weeks. For travel bookings, confirmation doesn't happen until after the trip itself — so a hotel booked now for a December holiday won't confirm until after December.
This is expected behaviour. Pending cashback is real cashback that's waiting to clear — it's not missing.
When your Confirmed balance hits $10, you can withdraw to a Singapore bank account via bank transfer. Processing takes within 10 calendar days. Daily withdrawal cap is $300.
A few things can void a cashback session silently at checkout:
None of these are hard to avoid. The pattern is: one session, one browser, click through ShopBack first, go straight to checkout.
Here's the part that takes the returns from decent to genuinely good. ShopBack cashback is one layer. You can stack it with:
Each layer comes from a different budget. None of them cancel each other out.
If you're signing up now, the 9.9 Sale offer is live until 11 September 2026.
Download the ShopBack app or head to shopback.sg — tap Sign Up — enter fgcymM where it asks for a referral or reward code before completing registration — and the $10 bonus Cashback is added to your account.
Then just do the first click-through and buy something you were already going to buy. The rest takes care of itself.
