Saw on Facebook guru lady asking people to get in on Options.. For beginners and for (long term) investing..
I thought options have expiry date, how does options for long term investing work? Is 1 year long term for options? And most people don't even have success with the most basic form (equity), yet asking beginners to go into derivatives?
Seems like her facebook profile and pages are all very hyped and popular though.. any success students from this guru?

Hi there, I would stand against using it until you are extremely well versed with the markets without using options.
Options are only a tool but it requires a solid foundation of the market with fundamental and techinical analysis first before you use this special weapon. It's like a nuclear weapon, it can be very powerful if you know how to use it, but it can destroy you very quickly if you have no idea what you are doing.
Certainly it is not difficult to make 20/30% returns consistently YOY with options, once you understand options you will understand why these are actually very conservative gains, may even be considered poor gains to some. However, it is extremely risky without proper understanding.
It is NOT for beginners

There are a few aspects to an option contract - strike price, put/call, premium, expiry date and the option Greeks. While it may sound simple to buy a contract for 'investment', it's not really that simple as the premium will change depending on the underlying stock price movement, days to expiry, current stock price, and the impact of the Greeks. And its entirely possible for your 'investment' to completely lose value and go to zero. How often does that occur with stocks?
Sure, a 'guru' may hold your hand through but how much can you learn? There are may strategies that can be used and it depends on your risk level comfort and willingness to trade the entire market session (that's 1030pm to 5am our time for now).
I've personally paid for option courses here and while I learned is invaluable for a basic understanding, it's simply just a scratch on the surface. I've yet to come across anyone teaching options here on an advanced level. On the other hand, I've learned a lot more subscribing to an alert service and talking to full time traders and other like minded retail ones.
So if you really want to get into options, read up first. Join some Facebook groups and watch YouTube videos to learn more. Don't fomo and jump into classes teaching options here; you'll learn a lot more trading with like-minded others especially those who trade from opening to closing bells.
Happy to share more if you want. Just reach out.
