Before Airbnb was in vogue, I was a regular user of couchsurfin, which enabled me to stay in strangers' houses while travelling. Best way to save on accommodation while getting to know the locals better

Before my wife and I had our daughter, we were big fans of budget travel. We went to Greece for 10 days, 4 places (Athens, Meteora, Santorini, Mykonos) with only $1950 with flights accommodation and expenses included!

The most important thing was to secure cheap air flights. Our direct flight to Athens via scoot only costs us $580 each. Domestic flight costs another $200 and ferry costed like $20.
we also stayed in Airbnb that costs us about $20-$45 per night per person.

other than a couple of lavish dinner that costed us $30 per person, we typically spend less than $5 per meal usually.

if you saved on accommodation flight and meals, you definitely have checked most of the box! :D
