Quitting during probation, will it affect my career?

Recently joined a new company, coming close to half of my probation period (3 mths). I joined mainly because of the attractive basic pay.

But I have come to realised the mindset here is really old school.

Weak and outdated IT Dept, Direct manager 'oversee' too many functions.

Overseeing a project, but is being slowed down by so many ridiculous 'rules', not my speed at all.

I am not doing much currently and living day to day.

Do advise if i should quit before landing a job (Completion of probation constitute a longer notice period - 2 mths)

It really depends on which company u are employed at. If the environment is toxic from the start of ur employment, no point to even stay for the whole probation period. Reason is the boss or colleagues will continue to use toxic ways to harm your mental health like isolating new colleague during lunch hrs (never ask him or her daily activities or never include u in terms of buying lunch together). Even u are doing your work, they will find ways to shout at u to do things for them, which is completely a red flag to workplace or even interviews from the start

I personally do not think it will if after accessing the company during probabtion period and feels that it will no suit you after it ends.

I've actually quit just right before my probabtion ends (on my 2nd month of probabtion) when i started out on my first job.

But like you, i've also access the company and find it completely different from what i've expected. I was not working with my Dept that i was hired to (the dept was based at other branch & i have no idea why), i've only seen my boss like ONCE(during my whole 3 months probabtion period), my supervisor that took care of me actually send me from the east to the west just for a 2 hours training (cause claming that no one near our branch could do so.). but all in all, i wasn't learning much and everyday i just head to work everyday to only wait for further instructions from my supervisor/boss or to pass me work to do.

If you want to quit before probation end, try to secure another job as well as the market is not doing very well recently too.
