Has anyone heard of, is currently a customer of MasterworkIO?
Website: https://www.masterworks.io/about/about-masterworks
Mission: Democratize art investing.
It is a rather new asset class for the mass market, but one that is very familiar to HNWI
IMO it is what NFTs are but it was only for the UHNWI (cos you have to buy the entire painting), now they sell part ownership in each art work, from my understanding masterworks is part of the bludgeoning tokenisation of assets startups. It is like buying shares in an art work.
What I find attractive about investing in art with MasterworkIO is that the asset class is not correlated to the S&P500, so it times of volatility it could act as a hedge.
I however dislike the fact that the investing in art with MasterworkIO is not liquid as one is unable to participate in the secondary market if they are not a US citizen with a US bank account.
I don’t see any opinion articles about art investing (I saw one on luxury watches… that market is cray cray), hence I am curious.
Do share with me your thought, I would like to gain more perspective.
