Hi there, I am a mechanical engineer fresh grad from local U. Am contemplating between the 2 roles I got. One is a project engineer for a MNC and the other is M&E consultant in the built environment sector.
I have googled both roles and asked questions to clarify during the interviews. However, the more I research, the more I am confused between the 2 roles. It seems like both do actually have similar roles but the project engineer has more responsibilities to handle? Can any seniors here in the industry please help me differentiate the both once and for all? Thank you so much!

The only person with the clearest understanding of what is to be expected from the role is the company, not us.
A title is just a title but what is encompass within the role differs from company to company
In general...
Project Engineer sounds more on-site where you oversee the site development progress and is more holistic.
M&E Consultant sounds more on planning stage, before things are being executed and is more focused on Mechnical and Engineering (means no structural involved).

Yes M&E consultant is more technical, whereas project engineer is more coordination/ handle project, but definitely need some technical knowledge. it depends on what you want/ like. if you like technical work, i suggest M&E for now and you can always switch to project later.
