I'm in my mid 20s. Undergraduate.
Due to our land size, cost of owning a house and a car is expensive, I get that. But it's cheaper than HK.
Singapore is such a safe country. Other than the cheekopeks praying on women. You're still able to walk alone at night without worrying much.
The cost of living is comparable to living oversees (excluding car and house). I've travelled to NZ and Europe, groceries ain't cheap. Rent isn't cheap either.
Open my eyes. Shoot me down, fire away. Thanks!

It's about the quality of life and the lifestyle which are lacking in Singapore. Grant it that Singapore is safe but if playing safe in life is all you need, its not really living isn't it. We are planning to go NZ and NZ imo is as safe as Singapore. Home prices are increasing in NZ rapidly but hey, still can't beat SG $PSF for landed home. In NZ, you get to own 3 cars for the price of 1 in SG and they are yours forever! SG weather is the greatest push factor for many including myself, who likes constant muggy weather right? SG don't have vast expanse of nature like mountains, lakes, clear blue sea to calm our soul. In NZ, you can take off in your car and escape city life for just an hour or so drive away. You are in 20s, young and full of energy so maybe you don't buy all these but trust me, when ones get older and working decades in the rat race, many will either suffered from burned out or be jaded with the competitive city life in Singapore. Life is more than working and consuming.
Last but not least, SG safety cannot be taken for granted because everything we have in Sg can be gone in 3 months if SHTF. All our foods are imported and in an unlikely doomsday scenario, everyone in Sg will died of hunger if logistics are cut off.

Not all people see life only in terms of money.
In Sg you only see buildings and crowd all year long, without seasonal change, or countryside scenery.
Also the best job could give you one months AL per year for you to travel and back to the same monotonous life (maybe not for those who can live extravagant life).
While in developed countries like European countries, there is better income equality, social security and work life balance. You don’t see old folks collecting cardboards.
The high taxes make you not rich but life is simple, the kids can choose to study whatever they like without thinking only about making money, that’s not something we can afford in this competitive city.

Really brave of you to ask this question and I admire the curiosity as well!
To me the answer is simple: do you think Singapore beat other countries in everything? If no then clearly if people value those things more they would move right
As mentioned it's about what you value. Personally I hate the weather, it might be a small thing but it really sucks for me to sweat just walking from home to the mrt. I much prefer the cold, and I would say that alone might be the greatest factor for me to move. Similarly if something else(which might be small to us) is a huge factor to people, they would move as well.
