Planning to invest $15k into the stock market - any recommendation on allocation (%) and what shares / etf that I can take a look at? [would you suggest lump sum now or dca?]

PS: Saw some comments that certain etf is not worth to dca if small amount.. am abit confused.

General approach:

  • $15k into S&P500 / Nasdaq ETF, lump sum.
  • Then DCA into it monthly constantly.
  • Not necessay to diversify to other US ETF, as these board ETF represent entire US economy, if they tank, the whole US market will tank.

Specific approach: you need to work out 2 things, (1) how long you going to stay invest (2) how much you need to invest evey month.

Inorder, to do that you need to set goal, have a financial roadmap and budgeting. If you just need 5%p.a. returns to achieve your desired amount at a given time, dont take unnecessary risks. I always advocate manage your risks first before returns for long term compounding.

Then we have to think of how to construct our portfolio in such a way that no matter in what market condition, (market only got 3 direction up, down or stagnation), so we will still able to sleep & eat well, especially during retirement when we are dependent on our investment.
