Omission of prior condition before the purchase of hospitalisation policy

My friend Bought policy from Prudential in 2023. The mental distress diagnosis happened in 2015 but she has since recovered. She has stopped taking meds completely in 2020. Understand she did share this with the agent but not the diagnosis and is a polyclinic that she has visited. Her agent mentioned that it is okay to buy the policy with the rider and the possibly to claim but she can't be hospitalized in a government or govt linked hospital. Pls share your thoughts. Is that so ?

Is the insurance agent ethical? Tell you to not be hospitalised in government hospital? Why?

Might want to do a "fit-for-intent" doctor appointment, to certify that your friend has properly recovered from mental distress illness condition, and it can be regarded within policy coverage scope.

Do check with the agent on this approach and be upfront about the condition process and recovery steps, so that the underwriting process can be as detailed as possible, reducing the chances of getting an "out-of-coverage" shock down the road.

Hi the final decision will rest with the company - whether to accept , exclude or perform some form of "loading" in terms of additional premium.

Always be truthful in your application. Do note that being untruthful in your insurance application can potentially drastically on you.

  1. The insurance company will deny your claim and refund all of your premiums paid - but this is the least of your concerns.
  2. They can decide to pursue a case against you for potential fraud. Not declaring any conditions truthfully constitutes fraud.

Do not trust any agents that assure you otherwise. Always remember - they are just glorified salespeople, not actual consultants with actual financial knowledge. They are only trained to sell for the commission.

As others also have rightfully suggested - always get things in writing. WhatApp and Email are such best practices. If you REALLY distrust your agent or have reason to suspect foul play - you can resort to voice recording them as well if you really must.
