Accountants are much more at risk in getting replaced by AI, so it does make sense to switch over to comp science. But computer science is downright technical, and it is alot harder to pick up compared to accountancy. So you need the interest and the mind to take up challenges if you want to head down the comp science route. Perhaps he should head down for some boot camps to decide for himself first to see if he really likes it. Comp science is not for everyone.

Might want to consider signing up for one of those coding bootcamps to get a feel of computer science. Computer science is surely more in demand that accountancy, but my belief is that it required a certain level of aptitude. signing up for a short coding course may let him better understand the nature of coding, and whether he is able to take on that challenge. wishing him all the best!

I also didn't like Accountancy back when I was in my undergraduate days and wanted to drop out & switch to another field of studies. My parents of course persuaded me to stay as the course was only 3 years. I didn't do as well as I would have if I have switched my course. However, I went on to do my Masters in a field that I liked after working for a couple of years. Looking back, my time in Accountancy was not wasted as when you rise up the Management ladder, having the ability to read financial statements is always a plus. Doing the yearly budgets is also a breeze. Perhaps you can advise your son to do his Masters in Computer Science later on?
