Hi Donald,

The information like your income, liabilities, age and mortgage you need is normally verbally or emailed to a Mortgage Broker to allow us to calculate and advise you on your home loan needs and eligibility.

However, these are just numbers and not your documents.

The information our clients give us is almost like when people see a doctor and tell the doctor their symptoms verbally. These are not your personal documents like payslips and CPF.

A good broker, will actually guide you to retrieve the documents and suggest you email the soft copies to the banker directly. (Where the banking secrecy act then protects you to the maximum power of the law)

Should you decide to CC us in your email, to be in the loop with the banker, that is up to you.

For other brokers i have no idea their policies. But for mortgage master, we delete your email with your documents after confirming the banker has received them.

BTW - it is illegal to retain even a copy of your NRIC.

As such we also do not want to hold on to your information.

  • Now on whether people can sell your info.

Er... how to? i also dont know how to.

Also, if you are on the DNC list, I believe that even if people sell to lets say an insurance agent, they cannot call you legally.

Further more the selling of information of your age, salary and contact details are not worth risking my business for my friend. Also, if you are on the DNC list, I believe that even if people sell to lets say an insurance agent, they cannot call you legally.

I know its hard to answer your question in totality, but I hope to a certain extent i helped eased your mind.

Always your faithful servant,

David Baey

Information provided to mortgage broker is under the protection of PDPA. But how to find out whether they sell your information is the tough one. I supposed you would need concrete evidence to prove their wrongdoings before you can take legal action.
