Long term holding SP500 (such as CSPX, VOO, etc) or world funds (such as IWDA, ISAC, etc) are better?

What are the factors to consider for long term holding?

1) How much monitoring?

2) How much risk?

The more the diversifying the lesser the risk but also the reward. But if you want a dump it and forget it kinda portfolio then holding these 2 funds will already help you get diversified.

US diversification - VOO

Global diversification - VTI

I recommend S&P500 with VOO having the lowest fee. You can check out John all season bogle's 3 fund portfolio. I am a fan of what he does. Personally all my investments are equities and 60% of them are diversified. I am very comfortable with this approach.

I consider 3 things,

  • how can my investments/portfolio take care of me when i stop working, regardless of market, up, down ,sideway, any conditions
  • Will my investment last througout my lifetime
  • Is the the expected returns adequate for my goal. Focus on not losing money and consistent cashflow.
