Sharing a saying I heard "mother nature is the best equalizer". no one can win in everything. and at times, the kids shine later on, when their love tank is filled and they had enough of fun. e.g. my 2nd kid who did the worst for psle with tuition, but ended up the best for O levels without any tuition

Just watch for the price to pay for when getting excel in PSLE.

It is quite important in Singapore as most companies here still value paper qualifications. So PSLE grade do affect the choice of schools thereafter, and the indirectly affect the degree one can get. Sadly but truthfully, PSLE results will have a big role in a student's future.

Hey there! I was one of those kids who came from 'branded schools' throughout my life. Went to them as parents wanted me to have a good start in life. However, such schools are often ultra competitive, and i end up only studying. Had very monotonous childhood and teenagehood. When your life is consumed by academics, its hard to have other things going on. Suffered low self-esteem for a long period of time, only managed to get out of it after much therapy. I had realised this low self-esteem thing is common within my friends, even those who scored 8A1s, 11A1s. Recently had a chat with a classmate/close friend, she shared similar sentiments as me.

People who grow up in our type of environment tend to be very results oriented, which come to backfire once we grow up. Cause we miss out learning to appreciate the process, as failure is feared. When we grow up, many of us feel lost, despite being seemingly put together on surface. Being open, coming from such schools also gave me a false sense of superiority, which i had learnt to humble down across the years as i started appreciating the different strengths of people around me.

Sometimes, i look at my colleagues/peers, who came from neighbourhood schools. I secretly envy them. They seemed to have a fun school life! Those rabbat stories etc. Made them relatable to people around and made life vibrant. Life is meant to be lived, and grades are really not everything in life.

I know of people who made it to uni in the end, though coming from N(A), N(T) backgrounds. Even those who dont, they still had great jobs, and make decent living. Sometimes, facing 'failures' early in life, is a way to build resiliency.Or perhaps, its also life's way to say, " hey your talent lies elsewhere, perhaps just not in academics. But that doesnt make you any lesser than others.' I know of so many kids having such great talents in other areas like dance etc. My own SO was from N(A) background, managed to find his strength in programming and working in IT now with masters' degree.

You never know how much potential a child has. And environment they are in matters too, which means you play an important part.

Focus on the strength that your child have, that is how you help him thrive. Encourage and provide opportunity for them to grow in areas they are strong in. A parent's non-conditional love (meaning regardless of grades) matters in helping children build self esteem! Having good self-esteem can help them go a looonnnggg way in life. Everything in life (eg. Relationships with others, work etc) comes from having a good relationship with self.

Read some of the comments here that mentioned type of schools affect type of people you mix with. To some extent, true, even sociological research says so. However, in my perspective, it depends. If you have wide enough life experiences and good social skills, i will say, u can always broaden your social circle anytime. And this, is not dependent on grades.

Never, self awareness is key...
